Resin Jewelry
Making resin jewelry combines simple tools with careful timing.
Crafters begin by gathering supplies. Some things needed are resin (UV or epoxy), silicone molds, mixing cups, stir sticks, gloves and optional items to add in like flowers, glitter, charms or pigments.
A level workplace and good ventilation are important as well.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions closely to prepare the resin. Epoxy resin usually requires mixing two parts together while UV resin comes ready to use. Stir slowly to avoid bubbles.
Once mixed, the resin can be tinted or decorative items can be placed into the molds. This is where creativity shines. Each piece is completely unique.
The resin is then carefully poured into the jewelry molds. A toothpick or stir stick can be used to guide resin into small spaces and to pop surface bubbles.
The resin needs to harden. UV resin cures under a UV lamp in minutes while epoxy resin cures at room temperature overnight.
Once the resin is fully cured, the pieces can be gently removed from the molds. Rough edges can be sanded if needed. Next, drill holes for attaching jewelry finishing.
Although it is optional, some pieces benefit from a thin top coat of resin for extra shine and durability.
Resin jewelry is customizable and perfect for both beginners and experienced crafters. With a little patience and practice, wearable pieces can be created that reflect personal style.
