30+ Free Weaving Patterns

Weaving might have been one of the earliest crafts that I started with as a child.  I had one of those potholder looms and would spend hours weaving the colorful loops into special potholders for my mom and grandmothers.

It’s safe to say they had plenty of too-small potholders filling up their kitchen drawers, but that’s what parents and grandparents do, right?

Although weaving is fun for all ages, this page has patterns for the more experienced adult weaver.

This page is devoted to weaving patterns using all types of materials to make fun and functional projects.

Inkle Loom Patterns

Inkle looms are discussed in detail on our loom weaving page. 7 Simple Inkle Loom Patterns from the Beginning Artist lists beautiful weaving patterns and weaving techniques to use on the Inkle loom.

The Inkle loom is great for beginners, but using the same weaving patterns over and over becomes tedious and lacks the joy of creativity that all of us on this site crave.

Zoom Loom Patterns

If you use a zoom loom or a cricut loom, Benji’s backpack is a great project! Take a peek at the weaving pattern to make this beautiful backpack for kids or adults.

There are several other zoom loom weaving patterns below, like the checkerboard bag, the bolster, and hearthside blanket.  So much can be done with the zoom loom!

Although many of the weaving patterns are to be used with loom weaving, there are also weaving patterns that don’t involve the use of a loom at all and are perfect for those who want to weave but don’t have a loom.

The Cattail Mat on the Tim Rosanelli YouTube Channel has wonderful directions to weave a mat with natural stems that can be used to dry fruit.  It is truly a creative video to watch and a great weaving pattern!

Repurposing, recycling and reusing materials is a must, and the milk carton coasters do just that.  The finished coasters are easy to make without a loom and can be wiped down quickly after use.

The many weaving patterns for use in the kitchen are projects made with and without looms.  Make beautiful napkins and towels to add to your table linens using a loom.
