DIY Valentine's Day Card

By learning how to make this homemade Valentine's Day card, it is possible to quickly and inexpensively make a personalized greeting card for those special people in your life.

This is a simple project even kids can make for their friends for school parties as long as there is an adult to supervise the ironing.

What is a good Valentine's Card Message?

There are so many ideas for Valentine greeting card messages! 

Valentine messages for kids to write helps make this day extra fun for kids, especially when their friends and family read the cards and smile or laugh and become so thrilled that they cared enough to give them a card.  

Kids might like something like these greetings to put in their homemade Valentine card:

what you need:

• Heat 'n Bond
• Blank card or card stock
• Envelopes to fit the cards
• Red, white, pink or other appropriate fabric scraps
• Scissors
• Iron and board

Instructions for making a DIY Valentine's Day Fabric greeting card

step 1: Adhere the Heat 'n bond to the fabric

Using the scrap fabric with a Valentine's Day theme, use the directions on the Heat 'n Bond label to adhere it to the fabric scraps. An iron is used for this step.

The scrap fabric doesn't need to be in large pieces.  Actually, it's better to use small to medium sized fabric scraps for this.

step 2: Cut the fabric

Using the scissors, cut out heart shapes by folding the fabric in half or by tracing a template. The card will be interesting if the hearts are in various sizes.

It is also fun to cut straight strips of fabric for borders or geometric designs.

step 3: Explore various designs on the card stock

This next steps are best done on the ironing board.

Making sure to use a blank card or folding a piece of card stock into a card, begin arranging the shapes and hearts on the front of the fabric Valentine's Day card.

Experiment with various placement until the card is to your liking.

step 4: remove the heat 'N bond backing material

There is a backing on the Heat 'n Bond that must be removed before the fabric pieces can be ironed onto the Valentine's card.

Use a pin to score the paper backing on the wrong side of the fabric. This makes it much easier to remove the backing from the Heat 'n Bond.

Take all of the backing off of the fabric shapes that are going to be adhered to the card.

step 5: iron the Valentine Craft pieces on the card

First, make sure that none of the fabric shapes extend beyond the edges of the card. This will prevent ironing fabric to the ironing board.

Begin with one Valentine shape on the front of the card. Lay the card on the ironing board and place the fabric piece where it belongs on the front of the greeting card.

Place a piece of fabric or paper over the top of the area to be ironed.  Using the directions on the Heat 'n Bond, iron the first shape to the card.

Continue in this manner until all of the Valentine fabric shapes are ironed on the front of the card.

It is also fun to iron on a fabric heart to the envelope for the card!

The scrap fabric Valentine's Day card is complete!  Such a quick and easy Valentine's craft!
