WhAt is Tannenbaum?

Tannenbaum is a German word for a fir tree.  The term is often given to a Christmas tree.  There is a popular old German folk song, "O Tannenbaum" which has been rewritten many times over the centuries.  The English translation and version of the song is a familiar Christmas song that most people have sung, "Oh, Christmas Tree".

SUPPLIES NEEDED

THE PATTERN

Tabletop Tannenbaum Tree - PatternThe pattern comes with detailed step-by-step instructions.  The tree and tree skirt templates need to be traced on paper before you can cut out the fabric.

THE FABRIC

Tabletop Tannenbaum Tree - FabricsTo make the tree use festive holiday fabric.  You can use leftover holiday scrap fabric, as I did, which was leftover from other holiday projects.  Or, you can purchase fat quarters to make the tree.  For the tree, you will need 5 fat quarters.  If you choose to make a tree skirt, you will need 6.

QUILTING

The tree is machine quilted.  This is an opportunity to practice free-motion quilting

BATTING

Inside each tree section is heat moldable batting.  After assembling the tree, you heat the moldable batting with an iron according to the directions.  This stiffens the tree enabling it to stand on its own.

TOP TAB

A feature I really found helpful was the small tab at the top of the tree making it easy to sew the star to the top of the tree.

SIZE

The finished tree is 13" tall with an optional tree skirt of 12" in diameter.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

The tree looks attractive without any additional embellishments.  However, you could decorate the tree with buttons, beads, led lights, glitter or faux snow.  To the tree skirt, you could apply a rick rack or lace to the edge. Tabletop Tannenbaum Tree - Completed on Table I really enjoyed making this Christmas tree and am excited to display it this year and for many years in my home over the holiday.
