Scrap Felt Projects

I have learned over time that sometimes part of being a crafter is being a hoarder.  That might not be true for everyone, of course, but from the sounds of things around the internet, this is a big problem for crafters, sewists, artists, and the like.

We see something and we can’t help but think that we will someday need it for a future project. Or maybe we will design a project around it. Or the price is right that we would be crazy not to get it.  And the list goes on.

Today the topic is scrap felt.  So many can’t bear to throw away even the smallest bits of felt.  The idea that they will someday be useful for another project is too much to bear.

This page will show so many easy crafts with felt. You’ll finally know what to do with felt scraps! The list is full of projects, organization of the scraps, and even how to use the scraps to make new full pieces of felt to use!

Take a look at our felt crafts page with great ideas too!

How can I organize my scrap felt?

The challenge of keeping scraps in order and easily accessible can be daunting. A few ideas to organize scrap felt are

  • Keep the scrap felt in clear bins or boxes. In order to quickly see the size and color of the scraps inside, clear boxes are best. They have lids to stack them, and if the time is taken to label them, it’s even better.
  • Keep the clear boxes away from windows and bright sunlight so the colors won’t fade. And keep them covered so they don’t collect dust!
  • Use pretty mason jars with lids for the scraps.  They can be organized by color and the lids of the jars keep scrap felt from falling out.
  • Use your scraps to make felt sheets then sew the sheets into a storage bin or basket to hold more scraps.  There is a great article here with an easy tutorial to upcycle those scrap felt pieces into felt sheets!

Beware: Once the container used to organize the scraps becomes full, it is time to make a felt project with those scraps!

If you’re not a sewist, there are also many scrap felt ideas that would perfect for those who don’t use a sewing machine.  As a matter of fact, most of the sewn projects involve hand sewing so no machine is even needed!

Some of the crafts here that don’t involve felt sewing are

  • Christmas Wreath on Wood Decor
  • Kandinsky Inspired Tree Decor
  • Fairy Wands
  • Fall Leaf Napkin Rings
  • And many more!

Felt sewing ideas are also included on this page.  Many of them involve easy hand sewing, too. Some of the sewing ideas are

  • Boho Hand Sewn Felt Coasters
  • Cute Bunny Brooch
  • Button Star Ornaments
  • Hand Sewn Felt Bunny Softie
  • Felt Mosaic Candle Holders

Now is the time to find useful and beautiful ways to use up all of those felt scraps that you can’t bring yourself to throw out!  Scroll down for many easy crafts with scrap felt!
