25+ Balloon Crafts to Make

It’s so much fun to go to an event that has someone, hopefully a funny clown, who is bending and shaping balloons into fun and silly shapes.  Kids love the magic of balloon twisting!

For other magical ideas, visit our magic page!  Imagine being able to do magic and balloon twisting!  It's the perfect combination for party fun!

With a few balloons and lots of patience, balloon crafts can be done at home.  Imagine being able to make many new and exciting pieces of art!

Which balloons should I use for balloon twisting?

There are several modeling balloons to use for balloon twisting. The balloons that come in the kits with the pump have very poorly made balloons and are not going to produce good results.

Good quality balloons can be purchased specifically for balloon twisting, and these are identified by both their diameter and by their length. The first number matches the diameter, and the two other numbers match the length.

For example, a twisting balloon numbered 160 is one that when fully inflated measures 1 inch wide and 60 inches long. There are categories of 100's, 200’s 300’s and 600’s.

A beginner should start with the 260 balloons in order to have real and lasting success. It is tempting to buy a kit from the toy store complete with a pump and many balloons, but the balloon artist will most likely become frustrated and lose interest.

Instead, purchase balloons from a party store that are marked 260. They often come under the names of “animal”, “sculpting”, or “twisty” balloons.

As you scroll down this page, there are so many links to different resources for balloon crafts and balloon twisting.  There are books, video and written tutorials, and so much more.

Check out the cute balloon craft using a deflated balloon for an elephant’s trunk in the Balloon Elephant Card tutorial. Not all of the balloon art involves twisting!

But if twisting is desired, one will never tire of the tutorials showing how to properly twist balloons into fun animals and other sculptures such as swords and hats.

With the correct supplies and good instructions, balloon crafts and balloon twisting can be fun, silly, and entertaining!
