CRAFTING FOR CHARITY IDEAS
Volunteer work can be a rewarding experience and is an important part of society. You can make a difference by completing craft projects in the comfort of your own home and donating craft items to worthy charities or you can join a local organization that crafts for a charity.
Craft for a cause and help a wonderful charity in the progress. Whether you quilt, sew, knit, or crochet, there is a charity that can use your projects!
How to get started crafting for a charity?
- Pick a charity first - locally or nationally
- Find out the types of handmade items they want
- Read the charity guidelines carefully. Many have specific requirements for the type of material to use, size, color, etc.
- Contact the organization with any questions you have
Where can I donate my handmade craft items?
Look below for a list of charities that can use your help.
If you want your homemade craft items to stay local, try calling local establishments to find out what they need. Some ideas are:
- Hospitals
- Nursing Homes
- Animal Shelters or Rescue Centers
- Homeless Shelters
- Women's Shelters
Teach Kids About Charity
You can teach your own kid about giving back or you can involve a kids organization such as 4-H or scouts in giving back by using arts and crafts time for projects. By giving and helping others, the child will become a kind, empathetic, and caring person.
Some ideas would be to:
Call a local animal shelter and see what types of blankets or animal toys they are accepting as donations. Or donation blankets and toys to Comfort for Critters.
With Color A Smile they can make a cheerful drawing for senior citizens, our troops overseas and anyone who needs a smile.
In conjunction with Operation Gratitude, kids can make paracord "survival" bracelets for our troops overseas and first responders.
Mail cards and letters to deployed soldiers through Support Our Troops.
