You’ve probably seen wooden pallets laying around. They are those horizontal platforms used to safely transport materials from place to place.

Where to Find Pallets
Many wood pallets can be found for free! I’ve seen worn and rustic pallets out by the road with “Free” right on them!
A good place to start might be using the internet to search for pallets nearby. Some common places to find them are home project stores that use the pallets to move their large and heavy items.
Clean pallets in good condition can often be found at masonry supply stores, construction sites, and flooring stores. Sometimes the wooden pallets can be found behind shops and grocery stores.
Just pleasantly ask if they are going to reuse them or just get rid of them. Most times, they are offered up for free.
Wood Pallet Safety
One thing to remember is to check if the pallet is a good one for your DIY pallet idea. Not all wood pallets are equal!
It is important to look for the HT stamp, which means that the pallet was heat treated as opposed to chemically treated. Pallets with the MB stamp means they have been treated with methyl bromide, a common pesticide!
Safe pallet wood is what is needed for the projects listed below! Luckily, most pallets have been heat treated.
