Why Give Gift Cards for Easter?
Gift cards get a bad rap. Many consider gift cards to be impersonal gifts. But they can be a very practical gift if one knows and give a gift card to the place the recipient likes to shop. As an example, I absolutely love McDonald's coffees - regular and iced. So I LOVE receiving McDonald's gift cards.
- Non-candy Easter option
- Allows recipient to choose what they want
- Easy way to stay on budget
- Easy to present attractively with this felt egg gift card holder
- Easy and convenient to use
- Never have to be returned
- Cost of sending gifts cards is way less than the cost of mailing a package

INSTRUCTIONS for the DIY gift card holder:
STEP 1: Download and print egg template
First, you need to download and print out the free printable Easter egg template.
You can find the free template by scrolling down the page. It's located in the supporting products and link section.
STEP 2: trace easter egg holder template
If you're only going to create one gift card holder, simply cut out the paper pattern template pieces and pin them to felt.
But, if you are making several, trace the egg template, back and front, on a piece of cardboard. Craft Tip: Use an empty cereal box as cardboard. Once the templates are traced on the cardboard, with an all-purpose scissor cut them along the tracing lines.
STEP 3: gather supplies for the card holder
Now gather supplies you likely already have in your craft stash for the felt gift card holder. You will differently need felt. Other supplies that can be used to decorate the felt egg/eggs are ribbon, buttons, rickrack, sequins, lace, stickers, pompom, etc.
STEP 4: Choose felt for the Easter Egg Card Holder
From your felt stash, chose a color and trace the two egg pieces (one front and one back) onto the felt using a disappearing ink fabric pen.
For this demonstration pink felt is being used for both the front and back pieces. But different colors can be used. It's a great way to use up smaller scrap felt pieces.
Once done tracing, cut out the egg pieces. If you don't have a disappearing ink pen, a normal pen can be used but the tracing lines may be visible after cutting.
STEP 5: Sewing together
Place the two egg pieces together lining up the front and back. The back is lined up with the bottom edge of the front. You can pin them together but it is not necessary.
At the sewing machine, using the edge of the pressure foot as a guide, sew around the entire outside of the felt pieces. When you get back to the beginning stitches, try to stitch exactly on top of them and also backstitch to make sure the stitches don't come undone.
No Sewing Machine? This project can still be made by hand sewing around the outside edge of the egg using a small running stitch or a back stitch.
Step 6: Time To Decorate the felt gift card holder
Now it's time to decorate with the decorative supplies. Lay out your design to review how it will look on the felt egg.
Then use felt glue to attach the trimming to the egg-shaped felt. When working with felt, I prefer felt glue; but you can probably also use fabric or even hot glue.
At this point, don't worry if the trims extend beyond the felt egg.
STEP 7: Dry
Allow time for the glue to dry.
STEP 8: trim
Cut any excess trim even the edge of the felt egg.
The DIY felt Easter gift card holder is complete. Slip the gift card into the back pocket and gift. These holders can be used for more than just gift cards - money, candy, trinkets and small toys can be inserted into the pocket as well.
Making these felt Easter gift card holders are a unique way to give a gift this Easter.
