let's make a DIY heart card
supplies you need to make this project:
- 5-3/4” by 4-3/8” Envelopes (Purchase from Amazon, Joann, Michaels)
- 8-1/2” x 11” Cardstock: A favorite Color and White (Amazon, Joann, Michaels)
- Decorative Paper for the Hearts
- Small “Thank-You” Rubberstamp or other rubberstamp (Amazon, Joann, Michaels)
- Black Stamp Pad or a color of your choice
- Heart Hole Punch (Amazon, Joann, Michaels)
- Paper Cutter (Amazon, Joann, Michaels)
- Double Stick Tape
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1: Cutting the Cardstock
This tutorial will create two cards. Begin by cutting an 8-1/2” by 11” piece of cardstock in your desired color into two pieces using the paper cutter.
Then, fold each piece in half lengthwise to create two cards, each measuring 4-1/4" by 5-1/2" when folded.
STEP 2: Designing the Card Front
Let’s decorate the front of one of the cards you cut and folded in Step 1.
You will decorate the card's front with paper hearts and a rubberstamped message. For this tutorial, the message is “thank you", but since this card is also perfect for Valentine's Day, a sentimental message of love could work well too.
Use your heart punch to punch hearts in different colors, patterns and textures from paper. This is a great way to use up scrap paper leftover from other projects.
Next, apply double-stick tape to the front of the card using a pattern that you like and attach the hearts to the tape.
Using a small rubber stamp, be it a “thank you” message or other message, press it firmly into the ink pad. Make sure the stamp is evenly coated with ink. Stamp your chosen message onto the card around the hearts.
Congratulations, the front of the card is now complete! Yippee!
Now let's move on to the inside of the card.
Step 3: Inside of the Card
With a paper cutter, cut a piece of white cardstock to 4” by 5-1/2”. This will be the insert for the inside of the card.
Open the card you prepared in Step 2. Apply double-stick tape to the card insert and stick the insert to the right side of the card's interior.
To make the inside of the card as special as the outside, add a decorative paper heart or hearts using double-sided tape.
Lastly, there is plenty of room to either stamp or handwrite a thoughtful personal message of appreciation, a sentimental Valentine's Day message or a fun personalized greeting.
STEP 4: Personalize the Card Back
Turn the awesome card over and personalize the back.
Two options are to write “Made by [Your Name]” or use a rubber stamp that says, “Made By” and write in your name.
STEP 5: Embellishment the Envelope
Select an envelope that fits the card. The card measures 4-1//4" by 5-1/2", which fits most medium-sized envelopes.
Finally, add a decorative touch to the envelope by attaching a paper heart to the lower left corner with double-stick tape.
Finished! You've created a beautiful card that is ready to mail. Whether it's a thank you note or a Valentine's Day greeting, your handmade card is sure to brighten someone's day.
