Nearly everyone has seen someone wearing a bracelet made out of small elastic bands. These bracelets in beautiful and complex designs are most often made from a rubber band loom called a Rainbow Loom!
Rainbow Loom History
Colorful loom bands made of rubber or plastic are woven into decorative items on the Rainbow Loom. This toy was invented by Cheong Choon Ng in 2010 in Novi, Michigan.
Although it had a slow start, beginning in 2013, this Rainbow Loom was a popular pastime at summer camps and clubs. Grade school kids would make the bracelets to swap with their friends, just like popular friendship bracelets woven from thread or floss.
The Rainbow Loom is gaining popularity once again. Designs ranging from Rainbow Loom bracelet patterns to 3D Rainbow Loom patterns make this kids’ loom a diversified toy.
What can you make with a Rainbow Loom?
When it was first introduced, the rubber band loom was used primarily to make elaborate bracelets. Now, intricate 3D design loom band tutorials show how to make detailed objects such as pencil huggers, charms, key chains, and even lip balm holders!
Some other fun 3D designs include holiday ornaments, dragons, dolls, balls and even animals!
