I will admit it. I am a book nerd. I love libraries, and I can’t stop reading. I am a bookworm. I love to read, and my book has to have pages. Tablet reading is not for me.
So, as you might guess, I’ve collected many bookmarks over time. Some people collect coins. I collect bookmarks.
This page is full of great DIY handmade bookmark ideas for adults and teens to make.
Here are a few types of bookmarks:
- Traditional Paper Bookmarks: These are simple to make using paper, cardboard, or cardstock. They can be made quirky, fun, or beautiful by adding embellishments.
- The Leftover Alphabet Stickers Bookmark from Sum of Their Stories is a great example of this type of bookmark.
- Ribbon Bookmarks: Several of the tutorials below use ribbons to mark the pages of a book. They are often embellished at the top, like the Penny Rug Bookmark shown on this page.
- Elastic Bookmarks: These bookmarks loop between the pages of the book and the book cover, showing a pretty design on the cover of the book.
- Take a look at the Felt Flower Bookhugger Bookmark brought to us by Organize 31. This is a beautiful bookmark that would make a wonderful gift for bookworms like me.
- Clip Bookmarks: There are many tutorials below showing how to make bookmarks that hold the place by clipping over the page.
My favorite is the Bird Bookmark from Crafty Hacks. There are tutorials for making wire-clip bookmarks, button-clip bookmarks, and more.
Many of these are quite simple to make.
- Hard Bookmarks: These lovely bookmarks use liquid polymer clay or resin to design a thicker bookmark that takes a little bit more time and effort than the others. The bookmarks are lovely and worth the extra work.
This is just a sampling of the creative bookmarks in the list below. Pressed flowers, woven, embroidered, and origami all have their place on the list.
