INSTRUCTIONS for this Fall wreath
I selected eight fun fall-colored fabrics for my wreath. Select fabrics with a theme for a holiday season or a specific event. I could see a collection of blues and whites for a winter wreath or make one with your favorite sports team colors. This kind of project is a great way to use up scrap fabrics!
STEP 1: Cutting the Strips of Fabric
Cut the fabric into 1” x 6” strips.
An easy way to do this is to use a rotary cutter with a pinking blade. The pinking blade will help prevent the raw edges of the fabric from fraying and give it a decorative edge. If you need a pinking blade for your rotary cutter, please look below for links to where to purchase one.
A standard straight rotary cutter blade can be used, but expect the fabric to fray more over time. Use a straight rotary cutter blade if you prefer a rag look and loose threads.
Lay the fabric onto a cutting mat and line it up with the lines on the mat to be sure it's straight. Cut the fabric from selvage to selvage into long strips 6” wide.
Stack a few (2 or 3) of the 6" strips on top of each other and sub-cut into 1” strips. Stacking the fabric will make the cutting go much faster. Most rotary cutters can cut six layers at once.
STEP 2: Fabric Strip Piles
On a work surface, place the fabric strips in piles. Have one pile for each fabric.
STEP 3: Tying the Fabric Strips to the Wire Wreath Form
Working one section of the wire wreath at a time, select a piece of fabric and place it under the inner wire.
Bring the two ends of the fabric together and tie the fabric strip to the wire with an overhand knot. Only a single knot is needed.
Add fabric strips alternating between wires and fabric colors until one section is filled. As you tie, push the strips very close together. This will give the wreath a fuller appearance.
After completing one section, continue section by section until the entire wire wreath is filled with fabric strips.
This step can be done in front of the TV or while chatting with friends. Since it's a repetitive task, it can go faster if you are distracted doing something else!
STEP 4: Add a Hanging Ribbon
Cut a 6" - 8" piece of ribbon. Attach a ribbon to the back of the wreath by tying the ends together. Your wreath is complete and ready to use.
Optional STEP 5: Embellish the fabric wreath
Since the fabric wreath is so colorful, it can be used as-is. However, you can add embellishments to it using a bow or store-bought Halloween or fall decorations.
I added this cute pumpkin kid decoration to the finished wreath.
This wreath project is very customizable. It can be made for any holiday or occasion. The possibilities are endless. Make one for Christmas, Easter, Summer, or Patriotic. You can make so many versions of this wreath.
Happy Crafting!
