how to make a bird's nest ornament
for the bird's nest Christmas tree ornament, you will need:
- Two Mini Grapevine wreaths
- Decorative Bird
- Moss
- Hot Glue & Glue Sticks
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Pencil Compass
- Ruler
I purchased the mini grapevine wreaths, moss and bird from Joann. But you can always look at Amazon, dollar stores or Michael’s.
INSTRUCTIONS for bird's nest decoration:
STEP 1: Create a nest
First cut a piece of cardboard (I am using cardboard from a cereal box) to the size of the wreath. Measure the diameter of the wreath and then make a circle from cardboard this measurement.
A pencil compass is a handy tool for making the circle.
After the circle is cut out, make sure the cardboard covers the wreath without having the cardboard extend beyond the wreath’s outer edges.
Set it aside.
Layer and glue the two grapevine wreaths together with some craft or hot glue. Allow the glue to dry.
Now, run a generous bead of hot glue around the edge of the cardboard piece. Place the cardboard on the grapevine wreath applying pressure for a few seconds to make sure the cardboard is firmly glued to the wreath.
Here is a look at the front of the birds nest after the cardboard circle is glued in place.
STEP 2: apply moss
It's time to fill the bird's nest with moss. Simply apply some hot glue to the cardboard and add the moss.
Continue layering glue and moss until all the cardboard is covered.
STEP 3: attach bird inside bird nest
A bird's nest wouldn't be complete without a bird; so apply hot glue to the bottom of the bird and press it firmly to the bird nest.
Now you have a gorgeous homemade bird Christmas tree decoration. It’s super cute, super easy and super darn quick.
It’s easy to tuck the bird's nest ornament onto a branch and it looks so cozy in the Christmas tree!
