Redecorating my living space is so much fun; I love to look at different styles and colors as I cruise the home decorating section of stores. But truth be told, the costs can definitely add up quickly if your home decor items are purchased!
You’re talented! Why spend a ton of money on items to decorate your home when we have an easy way to perk up your home by making DIY pillows? We will show you how to make a whole new look at a very low cost!
This page is full of ideas to make your own pillows that will compliment any theme you’d like in the cozy living areas of your home.
The ideas you’ll find here include DIY pillow covers as well as simple DIY throw pillows that will get you excited to start sewing up a new look for your house!
Unique DIY Pillows
We have many tutorials that will show you how to make your own pillows that are special and unique. Get ready to have your mind blown!
Make a quick stop at the Dollar Tree and pick up some colorful bandanas to make the inexpensive and simple Bandana Pillows we have below. They look great in a teen’s bedroom!
Our family would often purchase inexpensive pennants as souvenirs when visiting new places. But what on earth do you do with all of those pennants?
Make the Pennant DIY Pillow of course! It’s a great way to display the pennants you’ve collected from your trips, sports games, and carnivals. These DIY throw pillows are so casual and fun. Perfect for the den!
Scroll down and don’t miss the therapeutic neck support pillows we have for you as well!
Zippered And Envelope DIY Throw Pillows
I’ve found the best way to make a quick change using DIY pillows is to use a form and sew a cover that can easily be washed and stored. No sense storing full pillows if I can help it!
You will find many tutorials to make your own pillow covers that have zippers or an envelope style closure. In my opinion, the zippered pillow covers look very neat and professional, but they do involve that task of sewing in a zipper, which I don’t care for.
On the other hand, the envelope closures are much easier to make, but they don’t seem to look as polished.
I have made both kinds of DIY throw pillows depending on how adventurous I am feeling!
The Zipper Pillow Tutorial will show you how to make a beautiful pillow cover with an invisible zipper. Check it out! It may ease our fears of putting in a zipper, right?
Be sure to see all of the zipper pillow directions we’ve gathered for you so you can choose the one that best suits you.
A very helpful tutorial is the DIY Pillow with Flange Trim. This method to make your own pillows is a bit of a hybrid. The cover is an envelope style, yet it has special touches like the trim to make it look more tailored than traditional envelope pillow covers.
I don’t want to bad-mouth envelope pillow covers at all, though! They make a quick and easy change possible in your home decor.
We have many tutorials for DIY envelope pillow covers; be sure to check out the Envelope Pillow tutorial, which has a special feature showing how to beautifully accent an envelope pillow with simple piping.
Specialty DIY Throw Pillows
This page is so chock full of DIY pillow covers and throw pillows that there just isn’t enough space to mention them all.
Don’t miss the monogrammed pillows, ruffle and lace trim DIY pillows, our T-shirt pillows (very popular!), or tea towel pillows! You will also find some great holiday pillows to create.
If you have a coveted embroidery machine, take a look at our special page to make more monogrammed items!
Time to scroll down and look for yourself!
