It’s turning fall here and soon the chilly months of winter will be upon us. The wind is howling as I type this.
I love nothing more than to curl up under a warm, knit afghan with my tea and a book when the weather changes.
(I suppose there is one thing I like more, and that is to see my kids curled up under a warm afghan that I have knitted!)

- Take a look at the easy Bear Claw Throw pattern from Purple Kitty! This free knitted afghan pattern is inspired by the classic bear claw quilt block. Although it looks very complex, the throw is marked as an easy project.
- The free blanket knitting pattern made in patchwork from Craftbits is more elaborate and would be a nice challenge for the experienced knitter. It has clear instructions for the square pattern in each block; the blocks are then stitched together.
- The knitted Patchwork Quilt pattern from Canadian Living is a hybrid of a knitted afghan pattern and a quilt! It’s more complicated than knitting a blanket, but it has very clear instructions. This knitted afghan has a backing like a quilt!

HEIRLOOM AND VINTAGE KNIT AFGHANS AND KNITTED BLANKET PATTERNS
- If you are looking for a special knitted blanket pattern that would make a lovely wedding or housewarming gift, check out the Bella Vita Blanket pattern from Christaco Designs.
It’s an easy knit blanket pattern that is simple enough for beginners and has a lovely finished design. I think it looks beautiful in ivory yarn. There is also a pattern to knit this in baby blanket size if you are looking for a very special baby gift.
