Knit Bag and Purse Patterns

When beginning a new crafting hobby, like sewing or crochet or knitting, I always seem to be drawn to starting with a tote bag. I just can’t get enough bags!

If you were to ask anyone else in this household whether or not there are enough tote bags, they would most likely have a very different answer than I do!

To be honest, totes, bags and purses are not the best “first” project for most crafts.  But with some basic understanding of knitting, this is the page to find great knitting patterns for bags!

If a quick refresher on knitting stitches is necessary, check out the page devoted to teaching these stitches.

Most of us love hand bags and totes, and with the knit bag patterns below, combining the passion for purses and bags with the love of knitting is so motivating and fun.

Knit Tote Bag Patterns

Tote bags are the bomb!  And this page is chock full of free knit tote bag patterns!  Be sure to take a look at the bucket tote bag patterns.  There are several from Joann listed on this page, and they are so fashionable.

Teens and young adults will love these drawstring totes. Nothing old-fashioned here!

Joann has another wonderful large tote in the Folio Tote link below. It’s on the easier side, using the stockinette stitch to create a cute slouchy tote.

The knit tote bag patterns that we’ve gathered offer so many possibilities for knitters. Go simple or go complex….all of the patterns create extraordinary bags!

Knit Purse Patterns

Most women love handbags.  Somehow, the purse section of stores is the first place to stop and browse.  The free knit purse patterns here make absolutely phenomenal bags, and they are so much better and less expensive than any knit purses found in a store!

Check out the Burly Spun Purse from Brown Sheep.  The easy to follow knit purse pattern gives directions for a purse that measures 12” x 10” and has a cute cable knit down the front.  Add handles and a zippered lining, and this is a bag that is sure to please!

I have always admired those who can carry a purse that is on the small side.  When leaving the house, a large purse comes along. Sure enough, that big ol’ purse is often in the way.

The Folded Purse from Brown Sheep has three pockets to organize all of the things needed for the day, without the usual huge purse that tends to knock things over!

Be sure to check out the many other knit purse patterns for purses from small to large.  It is possible to find just the right purse size to knit!

Other knit bag patterns

There is also a variety of other knitted accessories to be found here.  The backpack is a must see.  It’s both cute and functional, and anyone would be proud to carry it.

Take a look at the knit mesh soap saver bag!  It’s a very creative and useful bag to put in the shower.  Just add soap or soap slivers and exfoliate with the knitted bag!

Felted bag patterns can be found on this page as well.  Felting is gaining in popularity, and the free felted knit bag patterns provide easy to follow tutorials for knitting and felting a bag or purse.

If crochet is your passion, jump on over to our page for crochet purse and tote patterns!

Now browse the collection of free knit purse and tote patterns below and get knitting those bags!
