Christmas time is when I love to craft more than ever!! Yes, I obviously love to craft all of the time, but combine my favorite holiday with sewing, and you have the perfect storm!
I’m always looking for Christmas sewing projects. All. Year. Long.
My favorite gifts to give at Christmas are homemade, and sewing Christmas gifts is something I do throughout the year. As a matter of fact, I start looking for, planning and working on my Christmas sewing projects in January!!
If you are like me, sewing Christmas gifts is not the only thing you work on for the holidays. I’m always finding fun Christmas decorations to sew and get super excited when I find new patterns for Christmas ornaments.
Our annual family ornament exchange is a real motivator for me. (Not that I lack motivation searching for Christmas sewing projects!). We started this tradition of each family secretly choosing a hand-made ornament to create.
We make enough to send one ornament to each of my sisters’ families as well as my parents. This year it’s grown to include the adult nieces and nephews who live on their own, so we are making more ornaments than usual!
We have gathered together a slew of sewing Christmas projects for you on this page, including Christmas decorations to sew and patterns for Christmas ornaments.
Christmas Decorations to Sew
When my kids were young, we always had a Christmas countdown calendar. The first thing they did was run to the foyer where the calendar was hung to take their little chocolate treat for the day.
The Advent Calendar project below is one to check out! I love the old-fashioned look, and being a former teacher, the library-inspired supplies and finished product are so appealing to me!
No chocolate involved!! I love that now that I don’t have little kids to eat my favorite of all candies, I’m not tempted to have chocolate every single day of December (there are more than enough treats this month!).
We have a lot of other great links to Christmas decorations to sew below. Take a look!
Patterns for Christmas Ornaments
There are so many great sewn Christmas ornament projects here that it’s hard for me to choose my favorite to highlight! I made the Felt Stacked Christmas Tree Ornament that is on our Needlepointers.com site, and it was so much fun to create.
It was very easy, and I was able to make the ornaments while watching Hallmark Christmas movies!! Yes, I did just admit that!
I used a muted fir-colored green felt like the one used in the free tutorial, and I love the country, farm-house look. For a very different look, you could use a bright or even neon green felt!
Like I said, there are many, many other ornaments that you need to check out as well!
Sewing Christmas Gifts
Any of the Christmas projects below could be given as gifts, but you don’t want to miss the great ideas we have for packaging your special gifts.
