Beaded Single Crochet Stitch Tutorial

Incorporating beads into crochet work may seem intimidating.  However, it actually is a fairly easy technique. If you have mastered the single crochet, you can do the beaded single crochet.

This tutorial will show you two ways to add beads with a single crochet stitch.  This stitch is referred to as the beaded single crochet or sometimes the single crochet with a bead.

The first thing you need to do is to string the beads onto the yarn or crochet thread.  To make the stringing easier, thread the yarn or crochet thread onto a needle, and use the needle to string the beads.  One of the challenges is getting the right size needle to use.  The needle with yarn or thread has to be able to fit through the bead hole. 

I also recommend stringing a few more beads then called for in the project.  You don't want to get to the end of the project and realize you miss counted and don't have enough beads.

Another important note is that the beads are always added from the wrong side of the crochet work. 

Beaded Single Crochet - Method 1

Begin by inserting the hook into the stitch as if you are doing a single crochet and pull loop up.  You now have two loops on the hook.

With the two loops on hook, move the bead up close to the crochet hook.

Yarn over.

Draw the yarn through the two loops.  The bead is on the back of the work which is really the right side of the project. 

Beaded Single Crochet - Method 2

Before beginning the single crochet stitch, move the bead up close to the crochet hook.

Insert the hook into the next stitch.

Yarn over and pull up a loop.

You now have two loops on the hook.

Complete the single crochet by yarning over.

Pull the yarn through both loops.  The bead is on the back of the work which is really the right side of the project. 

The beaded single crochet is that simple.  Now, you can begin adding beads to crochet work.
