Easy Crochet Blanket Pattern (Afghan)

My guest bedroom winter blanket was really old and threadbare so I decided to make this handmade easy crochet blanket to replace it. Handmade items like this make my home feel warm and cozy.

The first thing I had to decide was what type of yarn to use to make the blanket. So, off to the store.

At the store, I discovered blanket yarn. Oh, my goodness, it is a super bulky and soft yarn. This cozy chenille-style yarn would be incredibly warm and was exactly the product I wanted to make a comfy blanket for the guest room.

Designing a pattern was the next step. I wanted a simple pattern that would work up quickly while I relaxed, crocheted and watched my favorite television shows. After working with the yarn and making a few samples design swatches, I decided on a half double crochet stitch. By crocheting only in the back loop, the pattern had a gorgeous textural element.

The free pattern below is for a double-size bed blanket. You can make this blanket in different sizes, from an easy baby blanket to a king-size bed blanket, just by increasing or decreasing the number of foundation chains.

Easy Crocheted Blanket for Double Bed

Supplies:

• Hook: N-15
• Yarn: 9 Skeins Blanket Yarn
• Tapestry Needle

Pattern Stitches:

• ch = chain
• hdc = half double crochet

Easy Crochet Blanket INSTRUCTIONS :

FOUNDATION ROW: Ch 133

ROW 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch to end of row, ch2, turn.

ROW 2: hdc in back loop of each stitch across the row until the ch 2, hdc under both loops of the ch2, ch2, turn.

Repeat row 2 until the blanket is desired length.

Weave in the yarn ends.

ROW 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch to end of row, ch2, turn.

A Finished Half Double Crochet

ROW 2: hdc in back loop of each stitch across the row until the ch 2, hdc under both loops of the ch2, ch2, turn.

At end of row, inserting hook under both loops of the end chain 2

Repeat row 2 until the blanket is desired length.

I am so delighted with the way the blanket looks on the bed. My guest will be warm and comfy in cold winter weather.
