Pumpkin decorating is the highlight of Halloween. What if you don’t like pumpkin carving? There are tons of no-carve pumpkin decorating ideas.
In the fall, as soon as the Dollar Tree comes out with their foam pumpkins, I scoop some up for fall and Halloween pumpkin crafts. You can make so many cute and inexpensive crafts with them.
Today's tutorial shows how to use leftover lace or purchased lace, white paint and a few other materials to transform an inexpensive Dollar Tree foam pumpkin into stunning white lace pumpkin décor for fall.
WHITE PUMPKIN DECORATION
White is the new orange -- at least for pumpkins. Once a novelty, white pumpkins gained popularity in recent years and are now seen in pumpkin patches; some grocery stores, hardware stores and farmer markets; and at home decor stores, specialty shops and craft stores.
Whether real or fake, white pumpkins sell at ridiculous prices. With a little time and effort, you can make a dollar tree foam pumpkin look just like the white ones you see in expensive home decor stores.
Most autumn decorating uses colorful harvest hues of oranges, rusts and yellows. What if these colors clash with your home's color scheme. Want a more neutral color scheme? That's where the white pumpkin decor comes in.
So, get crafty by transforming some store-bought orange pumpkins white with paint. You can leave them plain or you'll love how easy it is to turn the blank canvas of a white pumpkin into something special by using paint, stencils or decoupage.
You can start by making a white decoupage lace pumpkin. Watch this white decoupage lace pumpkin video tutorial or keep reading this post for a text tutorial that includes step-by-step directions with photos for the entire process.

white lace pumpkin STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS :
STEP 1: gather supplies
Before starting any craft project make sure you have all the supplies on hand. Check the list above to make sure you have everything for the foam pumpkin makeover.
STEP 2: PAINT FOAM PUMPKIN
Since paint and decoupage are messy, cover the table or your work surface with newspaper, craft paper, dollar-store tablecloth or something to protect it.
Before painting the foam pumpkin, the green stem must be removed. It's held in place with a toothpick. Remove it!
Then, use a paintbrush to paint a coat of white paint completely covering the pumpkin. You may have to paint it in sections - the top and then the bottom. Let the paint dry.
Meanwhile, paint the wine cork brown and allow it to dry.
TIP: Can you spray paint the Dollar Tree foam pumpkins? Don't! I tried and found that the oil-based spray paint dissolved the foam.
STEP 3: LACE CUTTING
When the paint on the pumpkin is dry it is time to dress it up with lace.
I shopped my lace trim stash and found the perfect white lace for this project - some edge lace and some ruffled lace.
Grab the edge lace, measure and cut a strip long enough to cover the pumpkin from stem to base. It should cover half the bottom.
Use the first strip as a template and cut enough lace strips to cover the pumpkin.
STEP 4: Decoupage Lace to Pumpkin
Pour some decoupage on a plastic plate.
Place one strip of lace on a large plastic plate. With a foam brush apply a coat of decoupage glue to it.
Place the lace glue side down on the foam pumpkin, making sure you don’t cover the stem hole. Then brush the top of the lace with a thin coat of decoupage glue.
In the same manner, continue applying strips of lace to the pumpkin, overlapping them slightly as applied. Once the pumpkin is completely covered with lace; allow it to dry.
Tip: Since the entire pumpkin is wet with decoupage, I inserted a toothpick in the stem and then inserted the pumpkin upside down into a floral foam block.
STEP 5: DECOUPAGE AGAIN
Once the pumpkin is dry, apply another coat of decoupage over the lace to seal it.
STEP 6: lacey embellishment
Next, three rows of ruffled lace will decorate the top of the pumpkin.
If you don't have ruffled lace, simply gather flat edge lace. With a needle and thread, hand baste the top edge and then gather.
Use a pencil to mark three rows around the top of the pumpkin. One row around the stem, one row around the crown of the pumpkin and the third row between the previous two rows.
Plug the glue gun cord into an electrical outlet. Give the glue gun a couple of minutes to soften the glue.
Working a small section at a time, lightly squeeze the trigger to release the melted glue along the outer pencil line. Carefully press some ruffled lace into the hot glue. Try these silicone finger protectors to save your fingers from getting burned.
Continue applying lace around the top of the pumpkin.
STEP 7: re-attach STEM
Insert a toothpick into the center of the brown wine cork. Apply a dab of hot glue to the top of the pumpkin and insert the toothpick into the stem hole.
It's finished! Embellish it if you wish.
