INSTRUCTIONS for how to make a snowman beaded ornament

STEP 1: thread the needle with narrow ribbon

Choose either the red or green narrow ribbon, or a ribbon color of your choice.

Snowman Ornament 2 Beads and Ribbon

Making sure the length of the ribbon is long enough to string through the three beads, make a loop at the top for hanging as well as several knots, use the scissors to cut the end of the ribbon at a sharp angle so it can easily be threaded into the needle.

Make sure the large-eyed needle can pass through the hole in the white beads.

Take the the sharp angled end of the chosen narrow ribbon and thread it through the eye of the needle.

step 2: Tie a knot at the end of the ribbon

Once the narrow ribbon is threaded onto the needle, make a knot at the end of the ribbon.  Slip the needle through one of the beads. Pull gently on the bead to make sure the knot is large enough that it will not slip through the bead.

If the bead pulls through the knot, make the knot larger by adding another knot over the top of it.  For this tutorial, it was necessary to make three knots at the end of the ribbon.

step 3: string one of the white beads onto the ribbon

Take one of the white beads and string it onto the narrow ribbon with the needle.  You can use the bead from step two. Tug gently to be sure the bead is secure.

Using the E6000 glue, place a small drop at the top of the bead where the ribbon comes through.

step 4:  string the remaining two beads for the snowman ornament

String the next white bead onto the ribbon so it is touching the first bead, making sure the E6000 glue will secure the two beads together.  Press the second bead firmly against the first bead.

Repeat with the final bead.  Don't forget to add the E6000 glue to the second bead so the final bead is secured to the bead below it.

Let the glue dry while firmly holding the three wooden beads together.

step 5:  secure the beads with a knot

Once the glue has dried and all three beads are stuck firmly together, tie a knot at the top of the last bead.  This will keep the snowman's body secure.

To be sure this holds, tie a second knot over top of the first one to make the knot larger. Add a drop of the E6000 glue on the knot.

Allow the glue to dry.

step 6: Make a loop to hang the snowman ornament

Once the glue has dried, make a loop at the top of the snowman.

Snowman Ornament 16 Tie Loop

Simply tie a knot to keep the loop in place. Using the scissors, trim any extra ribbon off of the knot that has been made.

step 7: Draw the face and the buttons on the wooden snowman ornament

Holding the ornament in one hand, use the fine-tipped black marker to make two eyes and a mouth made of dots to look like charcoal on the top bead.

Snowman Ornament 19 Add Eyes

Next, use the same marker to draw on charcoal buttons.  For this tutorial, two buttons were drawn on the second bead, and one button was drawn on the bottom bead.

Snowman Ornament 20 Add Mouth Buttons

The buttons can be configured any way that is desired.

Using the orange fine-tipped marker, make an elongated triangle as a nose for the snowman ornament.

step 8: add the decorative ribbon to the top of the snowman christmas ornament

Before adding the wider ribbon to the top of the wooden bead ornament, check the bottom of the snowman to see if there is an extra ribbon length to trim off.  If so, trim that now.

Snowman Ornament 21 Trim Tail

Lay the ornament on the work space. Take a length of the wider decorative ribbon and tie it into a bow above the head of the snowman.

Snowman Ornament 22 Tie Ribbon

Adjust the distance between the bow and the top bead to your liking.

Snowman Ornament 24 Finished

Clip off any extra lengths on the tails of the bow. This snowman ornament craft idea is complete!
