A bottle of wine makes a very nice hostess gift or holiday present, but to make it appear to be a real gift, it needs a special wine bottle cover.
There are paper gift bags that can be purchased that are tall and meant for a bottle of wine, but those get boring and tiresome. Why not make a very crafty DIY wine bottle holder that shows some real creativity?
This wine bottle cover is made from a leg of a pair of jeans and not only repurposes the old jeans, it also provides a gift bag that is fun and unique.

WHAT YOU NEED to create a DIY wine bottle holder
- Leg from a pair of denim jeans
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Threaded sewing machine
- Marking pencil or chalk
- Sewing pins
- Ruler
INSTRUCTIONS to make a DIY wine bottle cover
STEP 1: cut the bottom of the jeans
Measure up from the bottom of one jean leg 16". Make a straight cut with a pair of scissors at the 16" mark. The bottom of the jean leg will become the top of the wine bottle cover.
step 2: sew the bottom of the wine bottle holder
Turn the cut portion of the jeans inside out so the right sides of the fabric are together. It is important to line the fabric up at the raw edges, being sure not to put the two jean seams together.
It is important that the fabric, with right sides together, does not have the heavy jean seams lined up. This is too much bulk to sew over. Because it is circular, simply move the side seams askew from each other before pinning.
Take the 16" denim fabric to the sewing machine and sew the end with the raw edges together using a 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch seam allowance.
Be sure to back tack at the beginning and end of the stitching and clip the threads.
step 3: sew boxed corners on the wine bottle cover
Take the newly stitched portion of the DIY wine bottle holder with the new bottom seam at the top. Pull opposite sides of the fabric apart and fold the jean leg so two triangles form at the top.
Measure 1" from the top of each triangle and mark a line across the fabric. This will be the stitching line.
Begin with one triangle and stitch across the marked line, being sure to back tack at the beginning and end of the stitching. Cut any threads.
Do the same with the other triangle, stitching across the marked line.
Now cut the fabric with the scissors to make a seam allowance 1/4" from the stitching.
Turn the wine bottle bag right side out.
Now you have a nice DIY wine bottle holder to place a wine bottle in to give as a gift.
Gently place the wine bottle in the cute bag that was just made. Taking the ribbon, tie a bow around the bottle holder at the neck of the wine bottle.
The wine is ready to be gifted in a creative, unique, and handmade wine bottle cover. Use the wine bottle cover pattern to make gift bags for anything that comes in the shape of a bottle!
I hope you enjoyed learning how to make a DIY wine bottle holder. These cute wine bottle covers add a special touch to any bottled gift!
