WHAT YOU NEED to make doll pencils

Mini Pencils for Dolls_1.1.1

INSTRUCTIONS for making pencils for 18" dolls

STEP 1: Cut dowel

One dowel will make several pencils or colored pencils. Lay the dowel on the work surface and measure in 2 1/4" intervals.Doll Pencils 1 Mark Dowel

Make a mark at each 2 1/4" with the pencil.Doll Pencils 2 Multiple Marks

I have put five marks on the dowel.  Doll Pencils 3 Dowel Marked

Using the craft scissors, cut the dowel on each pencil mark.  Be careful while cutting the sections.  I recommend holding each side while cutting so the section doesn't fly across the room when cut. Doll Pencils 4 Cut Sections

The sections of the dowel are ready to be made into little doll pencils and colored pencils.Doll Pencils 5 Sections Cut

Step 2: sharpen the dowel

Sharpen one end of the dowel using a pencil sharpener to make a pencil tip.Doll Pencils 6 Sharpen End Doll Pencils 7 Sharpened

Step 3: color the pencil

Next, color the dowel to resemble a No. 2 pencil. Use the orange, yellow, brown, and black markers to color the pencil.

Begin by using an orange marker to make the pencil eraser. Color in a small portion on the end that is not sharpened to make the eraser.Doll Pencils 8 Color Eraser

Next, use a brown marker to make the metal portion that holds the eraser onto the pencil. A metallic color would look nice if available, but the brown works just as well.Doll Pencils 9 Band Line

Using a yellow marker, color the dowel to look like a writing pencil. Don't color the sharpened section of the pencil. This will remain the color of the wood.Doll Pencils 10 Yellow Pencil

Finally, use the black marker to make the lead on the tip of the pointed end of the pencil.Doll Pencils 11 Pencil tip

The writing pencil is complete! Make lots of pencils so the doll never runs out!Doll Pencils 16 Several Finished Pencils

Instructions for making colored pencils

Follow steps one and two above.

Step 3: Color the Colored Pencils

For colored pencils, do not make the eraser or the metal band.Mini DIY Pencils_1.1.7

Use a different colored marker instead of the yellow color to make the colored pencil. For example, instead of making the pencil yellow, use a blue marker to create a blue-colored pencil.

Color the sides of the colored pencil.  Don't color the sharpened tip; we want to leave it the wood color.Doll Pencils 12 Colored Pencil

Next, color the tip of the pencil to match the pencil color you selected.Doll Pencils 13 Mark Tip

The colored pencil is easy to make! Make them in many colors! Below is purple.Doll Pencils 14 Purple Colored Pencil
