Finger Knitting Tutorials and Free Project Ideas
When I was around 4 years old, I desperately wanted to knit with my mom and grandmother. It was so frustrating and disappointing when my little fingers just couldn’t maneuver those knitting needles.
That is when my mom taught me how to finger knit. Finger knitting for beginners was just the thing for me!
What Is Finger Knitting?
Finger knitting is a way to knit without needles, which is perfect for kids! It is amazingly simple and very easy to learn. Finger knitting projects need only a few simple materials; yarn, scissors, and your fingers!
Finger knitting is sometimes called finger weaving, and it can be done with one, two, three or four fingers depending on the finger knitting project and how thick you’d like the knitted rope.
If you are just learning and want to know how to finger knit, we have a very helpful and informative video tutorial and written photo tutorial with step-by-step instructions below. Scroll down for our Finger Knitting Tutorial.
As you finger knit, a long knitted tube is formed. I remember knitting tube upon tube as a finger knitting beginner. It was fun and kept me occupied, but what I was lacking were fun projects to make with the finished tubes!
Who can finger knit?
Finger knitting is for crafters of all ages. Finger knitting is a fun activity for young children and is a great way to introduce knitting without the use of needles. It will be easier for a child to understand knitting with needles after mastering finger knitting.
Finger knitting is an excellent group project for Scouts, 4-H, school class projects and birthday parties. Need a rainy day activity? Stock up on yarn and let your kids be creative.
