HOW TO MAKE THE MITTEN ORNAMENTS for the Christmas tree
Supplies Needed:
- Mittens
- Embellishments
- Ribbon for Hanging
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Needle and Thread
STEP 1: CHECK CRAFT STASH FOR SUPPLIES
Gather the supplies needed for this project by searching your craft stash to see what types of craft items you already have. Do you have any of these items handy:
If you do, you already have things you can use to make the mitten ornaments.
STEP 2: PURCHASE SUPPLIES
Then, go to the dollar store and purchase mini mittens or even regular size mittens. While at the store, search for other items that can be used to decorate the mittens.
STEP 3: SUPPLIES
If this is a family affair, place all the crafting supplies on the table and allow everyone to choose items they would like to put on their mittens.
STEP 4: MAKE ornament HANGER
With a scissor, cut a piece of ribbon to use as the ornament hanger. Fold the ribbon in half, place the ribbon inside the mitten at the corner and with a needle and thread sew it in place. If you don't want to see the thread on the outside, you can sew on a button to cover the thread.
STEP 5: Embellish
You could leave the mitten plain or add some embellishments. Sew, glue or hot glue the embellishments onto the mittens.
Let your imagination go WILD!
When finished, hang the mitten ornaments on a tree. Or make some garland with the mittens by attaching them to a long piece of ribbon or cord.
KIDS GROUP ACTIVITY: Mitten ornaments are a nice group activity for kids. Simply put the mittens and all the supplies on a table and let the kids choose how they want to decorate the mittens.
