DIY Snowman Christmas ornament
Here is how to turn a clear plastic ball ornament into a cute and easy snowman to hang on the Christmas tree!
to make the snowman ornament you will need:
While it may seem like the material list is long, this cute homemade snowman ornament is easy to make.
snowman ornament INSTRUCTIONS :
STEP 1: remove ornament cap
The first step is to remove the ornament cap. To remove the cap, gently pull the cap off the ornament and set it aside.
STEP 2: fill with fake snow
Next, fill the plastic ornament with fake snow. Any fake snow can be used as long as it is lightweight. For artificial snow, I use Buffalo Frosty Snow with its light iridescence that looks like realistic, twinkling snow. To make it easier to fill the ornament with faux snow, place the ornament in a cup.
With a funnel, carefully pour faux snow inside the ornament.
Once it's full, replace the cap back onto the ornament.
Can you use something other than faux snow?
Yes, you can use tiny Styrofoam balls or cotton balls.
STEP 3: snowman ornament's face
Now it’s time to begin decorating the plastic-filled ornament ball with the snowman face. You can use tacky glue for this or a glue gun. If working with children, I definitely recommend using tacky glue.
Glue two wiggly eyes on the front of the ornament.
Then, from the orange felt cut an orange triangular shaped nose. Glue it to the ornament. No orange felt! You could easily use an orange permanent pen, orange paint or even a piece of construction paper to make the nose.
For the mouth, use a hole punch to punch circles from a piece of black adhesive-backed felt or a piece of black paper. Attach several circles beneath the nose to make the coal mouth.
STEP 4: attach a hanger to snowman ornament
To add a nice touch, tie a ribbon at the top of the snowman ornament for hanging.
To do this, cut a piece of ribbon that is 8-inches long. Then loop the ribbon through the top of the ornament and tie a knot at the top.
That’s all there is to it. Kids of all ages can help make this snowman Christmas Ornament. Make several to go on your tree. This snowman ornament would be a fun gift too for teachers, bus drivers, group leaders or even grandparents!
