Loop Yarn Garter Stitch Tutorial

Anyone can knit!

Loop yarn is a fun new yarn that has unique preformed loops built into the yarn.  With loop yarn, you can knit without needles and using only your fingers. This tutorial shows how to make the garter stitch using loop yarn.  The garter stitch in knitting is one of the basic knitting stitches.

Right now, there are a least four different brands of loop yarn - Bernat Alize Blanket EZ yarn, Big Twist Loopity Loop Yarn, Red Hearts Loop-It Yarn and Lion Brand Off The Hook Yarn. Links to purchase yarn are at the end of this article.

This loopy, puffy yarn makes it extremely fun, quick and easy to knit blankets, scarfs, pillows, cowls and more. It makes knitting easy and fun for children, pre-teens, teenagers and even adults.Loop Yarn Garter Stitch Tutorial - Facebook

HOW TO KNIT THE GARTER STITCH WITH LOOP YARN

ROW 1 - LOOP YARN FOUNDATION ROW

When knitting with loop yarn you will start with a foundation row. The foundation row is considered row 1. To make the foundation row with loop yarn, on a flat surface count out the number of desired loops according to the pattern. The rest of the yarn is called the working yarn. ROW 2 - Stitch the NEXT ROW

To begin the next row of loop yarn stitches, take the first loop on the working yarn and insert it through the last loop on the foundation row from front to back as shown below.Loop Yarn Garter Stitch Tutorial - Work across row

Position the working yarn above the piece and continue knitting by inserting the next working yarn loop from front to back into the next foundation loop. Do not twist the yarn or loops as you work. Continue working across the row.

When the row is finished, do not turn your work. The right side is always facing you when working with loop yarn. Continue with the next row as with the previous row inserting the working yarn loops into each loop of the previous row from front to back.

The photo below shows after one row has been stitched.Loop Yarn Garter Stitch Tutorial - Row Finished

COUNT LOOPS

At end of each row, count the loops to make sure you have not missed any loops or you have not added any additional loops.Loop Yarn Garter Stitch Tutorial - Row finished

Continue Knitting

Continue with each row in the same manner.  For the Loop Yarn Garter Stitch, always insert the loops from the working yarn from front to back through the next loop in the row.

We hope you enjoyed this Loop Yarn Garter Stitch Tutorial. Knitting with loop yarn is fun and easy. Even kids can do it!
