Today, I would like to share with you this crochet project I finished recently for a great-grandchild - This Teddy Bear Lovey. The Teddy Bear Lovey is made from a free pattern I found on the website, Knit Paint Sew.
What is a lovey? A lot of time loveys are referred to as a baby's security blanket or blankies. It's a soft, snuggly object that provides physical comfort to a baby or toddler. Popular loveys have animal heads making them a favorite and easy for babies and toddlers to grasp.
This DIY teddy bear crochet lovey pattern is crocheted in two parts: The bear with its cute, happy face and the blanket. After the bear and blanket sections are completed, they are joined together.

What do you need to make the lovey?
After finding and printing the pattern, I ventured to the store to pick out the recommended yarn - three complimentary colors of Bernat Softee Baby Cotton Yarn.
I chose an aqua, cream and tan palette, but this teddy bear lovey can be worked in your favorite color or nursery scheme.
If the recommended yarn isn't available, select an alternative yarn, making sure to choose something that is extra soft and machine washable.
I already had a crochet hook size G, stitch marker, Poly-fil and yarn needle; so no need to purchase them.
About teddy bear lovey pattern instructions!
The instructions for stitching the project are easy to read and understand.
It’s stitched with mostly single crochets, along with some slip stitches, chains, half double crochets and double crochets. Click the links to find tutorials on the stitches. If you are left-handed, check out our left-handed single crochet, left-handed half double crochet or left-handed double crochet tutorials.
The bear's head, arms and the blanket are worked in continuous rounds so a stitch marker is very helpful. For a helpful tutorial on how to work continuous rounds (sometimes referred to as spiral crocheting) click the link.
I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was able to crochet and finish this project.
What size is the teddy bear Lovey?
The finished lovey blanket is an 11" square block worked in the moss stitch alternating the three colors that creates an attractive design.
The blanket can be adapted to a larger size simply by working more crochet rounds.
The teddy is 4" from the bottom of the head to the top of the ears.
