What is the best way to store 18" doll clothes?
Most kids have a slew of clothes for their dolls, and they can quickly become strewn about the house. Storing the clothing in one bin makes for easy play and clean up.
Find a bin or box that holds the doll clothing and shoes without pressing down on them. In other words, make sure it is large enough for all of those 18" doll T-shirts and other clothes.
Children can dump the bin out to play with the doll clothing and then easily put the clothes and shoes back in the bin or box without worrying about hanging up and sorting through the items.
WHAT YOU NEED to make a no-sew 18" doll T-shirt
- Dollar Tree T-shirt or fabric
- Small ponytail rubber bands
- Quilter's ruler or other measuring tool
- Rotary cutter or scissors
How to make no-sew doll clothes
STEP 1: Cut the body of the Dollar Tree T-shirt
Lay the Dollar Tree T-shirt on the cutting mat and measure 8" from the bottom of the nicely hemmed T-shirt with the quilter's ruler.
Using a rotary cutter or scissors, cut an 8" strip off of the bottom of the T-shirt. Be sure to cut through both layers of the T-shirt fabric.
step 2: Cut the tie for the 18" doll T-shirt
Next, lay the shirt out again on the cutting mat and cut a strip across the T-shirt 1/2-3/4" wide. This strip will be the waist tie for the no-sew doll clothes.Using the scissors, cut open the strip along the side seam, making one long strip.
Step 3: cut open the side of the wide doll t-shirt strip
Take the larger piece that was cut out, and prepare to cut this down the side seam. Carefully hold the 8" wide T-shirt piece and use scissors to cut down one side seam. Keep the fabric folded.Do not cut both side seams!
step 4: Cut the wide T-shirt strip to 9"
Lay the wide strip back on the cutting mat. Using a rotary cutter or scissors, measure 9" from the cut side seam and cut out the main portion of the 18" doll T-shirt. Now there will be two pieces of fabric, 9" x 8", both having a neat hem from the original T-shirt. Keep the pieces layered on top of each other.
step 5: twist the rubber bands on the top corners of the 18" doll T-shirt
Keeping the two pieces of the 8" x 9" fabric together with the hem facing the bottom, use the ponytail rubber bands to tie off the top two corners of the fabric.
Simply put a small amount of fabric through one pony tail holder, and loop the rubber band around the fabric several times to hold it securely. Do this on both top corners opposite of the bottom hem.
step 6: put the DiY no-sew doll shirt on the 18" doll
Take the doll and put the T-shirt top over her head with the ponytail twisted corners at the top of her shoulders. Gently smooth down the fabric until it lays flat on the doll on both the front and the back.On each side, lay the front fabric over the back fabric. This will close the sides of the T-shirt on the 18" doll.
Hold the doll by the two sides, keeping the front fabric over the back fabric, and use the thin strip that was cut to tie around the 18" doll's waist. Tie a nice bow at the waist of the doll with this thin fabric strip.
Now the 18" doll T-shirt is complete. The T-shirt is so fashionable and no sewing was required!
