Sweet Bees Baby Quilt
This Sweet Bees Baby Quilt is an example of a quilt I designed in EQ8 with Accuquilt blocks.
I used the Propeller block and my 10” Qube for this quilt. When I made it, I had to hand draw the propeller block so I could use it in the quilt.
Hand drawing the quilt block designs is no longer needed! With this add-on, all of the 216 blocks for the Mix & Match Qube, Corners, and Angles sets are included and can be used in your quilts!
About the Accuquilt Mix & Match Qube, Angles, and Corners Add-on for EQ8
Electric Quilt partnered with Accuquilt and Lori Miller Designs to make this "AccuQuilt GO! Qube: Mix & Match, Plus Corners and Angles" block add-on set for Electric Quilt 8 software. You must purchase Electric Quilt 8 to use this specific Add-on set.
This add-on set includes all 216 blocks that you can make with the Accquilt Mix & Match Go! Qubes, Companion Corners, and Companion Angles die sets. These add-on blocks will work with any size Go! Qube you own.
Once you install the add-on to Electric Quilt 8, the 216 blocks will appear in your block library and can be used in your quilt designs.
The 216 blocks include the entire collection of 72 blocks for the Mix & Match Go! Qube, 72 additional blocks can be made if you have the Companion Corners set and 72 more if you have the Companion Angles set.
Reference PDFs Included with the Package
This EQ8 add-on block set comes with four PDF files. Three PDFs show every block included in the set, along with its name and the numbered dies it uses. The dies used for each block are labeled directly on the block diagram.
The three PDFs make it easy to find the blocks you would like to try in your quilts and to know which dies you will need when cutting them out.
Add on Guide PDF
The last PDF included with the purchase is the EQ Add-on Guide. This guide will help you find the blocks in EQ8, provide instructions on how to use them in your EQ8 quilt designs, and provide information on using the EQ8 fabric measurements.
Where do I find the PDFs?
The PDFs are installed onto your computer with the EQ8 blocks. Look in your "My EQ8" directory. Under that directory, you should have the directories Documentation > Accuquilt Resources.
How to use the Accuquilt Blocks in EQ8
This will be a quick demonstration of how to find the new Accuquilt blocks in EQ8 after installing the package. If you'd like to see another demonstration of the EQ software, visit our Design Your Own Quilts in EQ8 Demo page.
Start a New Quilt
In Electric Quilt 8 software, I have started a new quilt with a Horizontal Style.
Set the Size of your Blocks to Match the Go! Qube
The first step is to set the size of your blocks to match the size of the Go! Qube you are using. Switch to the Layout tab and look for the section to set the block size. Take note that it says “Finished Size of Blocks.” I have a 10” Go Qube, and 10” is the finished size of the blocks made from this Qube.
So, for the width and height of the blocks, I’ll enter 10”.
Adding the Blocks to the Quilt Design
To add the Accuquilt blocks to your quilt, select the Design tab. From here, select “Open Library”. On this screen, under “EQ Libraries,” you’ll see two items listed, and one is the new “Accuquilt Libraries.”
Click on the "Accuquilt Libraries" option and expand it to see the "Go! Qube-Mix & Match, Corners, Angles". Expand that, and you will see the three collections: 01 Mix & Match Blocks, 02 Companion Corners Blocks, and 03 Companion Angles Blocks.
It’s nice that the collection of blocks is split up by mix-and-match, Corners, and Angles. This allows you easy access to browse the blocks that can be made with your Accuquilt dies.
So, if you don’t have the companion sets, browse the mix-and-match blocks only. Those are all the blocks you can make with your mix-and-match set.
If you have companion sets for corners or angles, browse the additional blocks you can make with those sets.
All of the blocks in these sections match the blocks in each of the three PDFs included in the package.
So, I'll pick the "Whirlpool" and "Two by Two" to use in my quilt.
I can browse through the list and find those blocks. When you click on each block, its name is shown underneath the window, and the blocks are listed in alphabetical order.
When I find the Whirlpool and Two by Two blocks in the list. I can click on the first and then add the 2nd selection by holding the <ctrl> key and clicking the second selection. Then click ‘Add to Sketchbook’ and then close the window.
Alternatively, click on each block and "Add to Sketchbook" to add them to your quilt.
The two blocks are now available in the quilt design and listed under "Sketchbook Blocks".
The blocks are added to the full quilt layout like any other blocks in the EQ Block library.
For example, to add the "Whirlwind" block to the quilt in alternating blocks, click on it, hold the <alt> key, and click a block inside the quilt. This will add the block to the quilt. The same can be done for the Two by Two block.
Coloring the Blocks
Once you have the blocks in your quilt, experiment with the colors and fabrics you usually do in EQ8.
IMPORTANT! EQ8 Fabric Requirements Calculations
EQ8 users know it will calculate the fabric needed for your quilts on the fabric requirements screen.
Please note that these fabric yardage estimates are incorrect for using Accuquilt Qubes and dies. EQ8 doesn’t consider the extra fabric needed to cut strips and fan-fold the fabric when using the dies.
The Add-on Guide PDF has links to two free resources from Accuquilt: A fabric reference chart and a Cutting Equivalents chart.
These charts can help you calculate how much fabric you need to cut your quilt blocks for your quilt.
We hope you enjoyed learning about this new Accuquilt block add-on for Electric Quilt 8! I am so happy this package has been created, and I won't need to draw the blocks anymore! This will leave more time for quilt design.
Happy Quilting!
